Commonweal Conversations: “A Dorothy Day Charism”

12/8/21 Cardinal Timothy Dolan delivered the homily at a Mass of thanksgiving to mark a milestone in the cause for the sainthood of Servant of God Dorothy Day. Dolan was criticized for skimming over Day’s advocacy & for neatly summarizing her conversion to Catholicism as a turn away from “experimenting & drifting” as well as “promiscuity.” A truer understanding of Day’s life and work resists such easy categorization.
