Flowing from their ministry of prayer, the monks of Glastonbury engage in a diversity of services, both in the monastery and in the local area. (During its first fifteen years, the monastery operated a delayed vocation and Latin school. It was, for many alumni, the first step toward priestly ministry in numerous dioceses.) Some of the present apostolates of the monastic community include retreat work, lecture programs on various topics, liturgical ministries, social services, and parish assistance in the local area. The monastery, with its prayer and silence, is recognized as a place where people from different walks of life and with different styles of thinking can find peace and inner renewal.
