PILGRIMAGE NEWS
Glastonbury Abbey has been sponsoring annual pilgrimages to various spiritual and historic sites since 1999. Father Timothy, with the assistance of Tom Dwyer of Seven Seas Travel, has been planning and accompanying these trips.
Celtic Spirituality Pilgrimages were made to Ireland in 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003 and 2006. A pilgrimage to Scotland (Iona, Whiothorn) and northern England (Lindisfarne) was made in 2004. Then a pilgrimage to Italy, focusing on sites connected with the life of Saint Benedict, took place in 2005. "In the Footsteps of Saint Paul" took a group to Greece in 2007.
This year’s 2008 Glastonbury Pilgrimage, "Walking With The Saints", is a two week tour of Northern Spain and France, May 11-24. It includes Santiago De Compostella, Burgos, Loyola, Lourdes, Lisieux, Mont St Michel, Omaha Beach, Rouen and Paris.
Meanwhile, tentative plans are being made for a pilgrimage to Israel, Petra in Jordan, Mount Sinai and Egypt, May May 3-16, 2009. We are presently awaiting the airlines to release 2009 flight costs to determine the price of this tour. More details will be made known as plans are finalized. A descriptive and illustrated brochure should be available later this summer. Write for information to Father Timothy at: joycet@glastonburyabbey.org
